Course: PDA Differentiating Mathematics Instruction
Dates: October 7 - December 13, 2019
Required Online Group Meeting Dates: October 7, November 4 and November 18
5:00-7:00 PM (EST).
Requirements for Online Group Meetings:
We will be using Adobe Connect for your online group meetings. Prior to the first group meeting, you will receive an email with a link to your course’s Adobe Connect room. Adobe Connect does not require any special software. You will simply be going to a website for your group meeting. All you need is a computer with a high-speed internet connection (you may want to avoid using a wireless connection or dial-up connection if possible). Since the online group meetings require interaction from all participants, you will need to obtain a microphone and headphones. Headsets with microphones can be purchased for about $15-$20 at Target, Wal-Mart or all electronic stores. You may be able to borrow a headset from your school. If you have a built-in microphone on your computer, you will still need a headset with a microphone.
In addition to online group meetings, participants read and study online course content, complete required assessment tasks and communicate with the facilitator regularly. Your syllabus will assist you in pacing your work throughout the course. Upon completion of all requirements, participants will receive 30 inservice points.
This course enables educators to develop, increase and demonstrate knowledge about how to apply the guidelines of differentiating instruction to mathematics instruction. Emphasis is on evidence-based practices structured by a responsive decision-making framework in order for all students to achieve at the highest possible level. Content includes how to use pre-assessment, continuous assessment, and summative assessments to design and deliver effective lessons for initial instruction in mathematics and how to effectively use flexible small group instruction to respond to individual learner needs.
The PDA courses, developed by the Florida Department of Education Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, are included in the Master Inservice Plan in all Florida school districts. If you are not currently employed in a Florida public school district with an approved Florida Department of Education Master Inservice Plan, it is your responsibility, prior to starting the module, to contact your former school district or private school agency to determine if they are able to submit inservice credits to FDOE for you.
